I am Kathleen, Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and I want to ask you to pray for the end of the war in Iraq and the return of U.S.troops.
I voted for President George W. Bush in 2000, and supported his re-election 2004. I supported the war in the early days and because President Bush believes in many of the same values that almost all evangelical Christians support - rights for the unborn, traditional values for marriage and restricting stem-cell research it has been hard for me to speak against him. However, I have come to believe that the war in Iraq has gone horribly wrong; too many young lives have been lost, the number of wounded solders is increasing and the suffering of the families and friends of our military personnel is heartbreaking.
Several years ago, Pastor Lance Witt of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA gave a sermon where he quoted Martin Luther - "We are not guaranteed the future - we only have this day and that day - the day we stand before the Lord". Those words mean a lot to me because none of us can change one single event in the past nor do we have a guarantee of any more days on earth than today. So regardless of the fact of my support for President Bush, and prior support of the war, I only have today to pray for the end of the war and encourage other evangelical Christians to commit themselves to ending the war in Iraq.
As a Christian, I believe God is big enough and enough - period, to end to the war, if it is His will and I pray that it is His will. I also believe I can follow Christ's example of practicing love and forgiveness and not resort shouting ugly anti-war slogans or pasting anti-Bush bumper stickers on my car. Unless the President happens to be driving behind my Dodge Neon on the 405 freeway, slapping a "Heck of a job in Iraq, Bushie" gets me nowhere is a hurry.
